Not sure I fully understand this post from Brad Fitzpatrick, as a lot of the technical stuff is outside my realm of knowledge. He does say the central aggregator should be open source, which I totally agree with. He says it should be non-profit, which I'm not sure about. I always imagined it as for profit, or seeking to maximize profit for the businesses that enrich it. Sort of like a central bank (but not an unconstitutional one like the Federal Reserve). But, making the core a non-profit does ring true with the notion of the edge owning the core, a concept I feel is key to the open social revolution, and to the idea that governance systems are the key basis of competition in our current environment.
