Thinking Out Loud About Alt DNS Roots and New Political Systems

I've been participating less and less on the web, and I expect that trend to continue, as its time to start looking for a job (seriously this time! ) and discontinue pursuit of my plan to save the world. LOL, I will always love that I literally came up with a plan to save the world though. That's fun.

Anyway, I'll still pursue bedroom rock stardom because I love songwriting, and I'll still share my thoughts on how the Internet can solve the global economic and governmental crisis, as I still believe in its potential to do that -- more than ever, in fact, in spite of my shortcomings in pursuing that agenda.

I'm confident in my understanding of how Internet communities create virtual currencies and communities, and how this creates the cultural and monetary revolution needed to subvert/replace the nation-state. There is an ISP component, as well as the issue of ICANN, though, and my vision on those subjects is still a bit foggy. It's getting clearer though. Here's what I'm currently thinking:

1. After much research, I think an alternate domain root is what will truly bring us political freedom and a new world order. This is not a new idea and many fringe political movements have centered around alternate domain roots. If you're not sure what they are, here is an excellent, easy to understand explanation. Technology people, this is how you need to write to explain things!!!! I can't tell you how much stuff I've read written by nerds that is basically incomprehensible -- it's like you need a PhD in computer science just to understand it. So frustrating.

2. A new top level domain is established. Something like .gov, but for the Internet government. For the purposes of this blog post, I'll call it .nwo.

3. The hard part of an alternate domain root is getting ISPs to connect to it. Forget the wireline ISPs, there is probably no hope there -- at least I don't think so. Wireless? I think there is more hope, especially if the movement starts outside the US. This would be a great thing for 9/11 truthers to sell at street actions.

4. Each ISP that connects to the alt domain root .nwo can be thought of as a nation. .nwo is like a global government. I feel Dave Winer's thoughts on a federated social network that he shared here can fit in here, though I don't have the vision clear on this yet. Need to spend more time dwelling on the issue.

5. Then you need a constitution, and elections and stuff. Imagine voting from your cell phone. Man, that'd be awesome.

So on some level the alt DNS root (the world government) has to charge the nation states (ISPs that are a part of the federation that connects to the alt DNS root) a tax. Citizens probably pay a tax to the nation-states (ISPs) and a global government (alt DNS root), although there will probably be some alt DNS roots that allow for the ISPs to bear the full tax burden. As there can be multiple alt DNS roots, there can be multiple world governments, which is what will truly allow for a revolution in governance.

What does a banking system look like here, how do these ISPs relate to ICANN.....that's what I need to dwell on. My blueprint for the business plan that saves the world fills in a lot of gaps -- it's almost like I need to connect the ideas there with the alt DNS stuff.

Feedback of all kinds is welcome.
