Jupiter entered Pisces on January 17th of this year. Below is a sign-by-sign horoscope of sorts regarding what that may mean.


Before we get to that, though, I should include my standard astrology/horoscope disclaimer:

1. Most sun sign horoscopes suck. This is because to really get the full picture you need an astrological consultation, in which the astrologer is able to talk to you about your issues, and can see your entire chart -- not just your sun sign. The whole chart is critical. The more of a person's natal chart you can see, the more meaningful of an analysis you can get. However, sun sign horoscopes can be a great way to give a person a quick taste of astrology -- and so, they are quite useful in terms of helping spread/market astrology. 2. If you go to one astrologer, and they suck, it would be a mistake to think that all of astrology sucks. That would be like if you got a carpenter to build your house, but they failed -- it would not be an indictment of the entire discipline of carpentry. It would more so be an indictment of that particular carpenter (and perhaps how you dealt with them).

3. Erin Sullivan is a brilliant astrologer. Her books are a great contribution to the field of astrology -- some of my favorites. Something to consider if you're looking for an astrologer.

4. Remember that astrology is NOT a condemnation to your fate. Rather, it is meant to highlight what opportunities are within your reach -- sort of a guide as to how you can best use your free will. Many people have an instant dislike for astrology because they feel that it violates their sense of free will. Well, astrology does require individuals to acknowledge there are factors in this world that are out of their control, and those factors do need to be respected. But once that respect is shown, you will be given the opportunity to express your free will in a more constructive manner that is aligned with greater cosmic forces (i.e. God, the Divine Matrix....whatever you want to call it).

Now, there are plenty of ways to write a horoscope. With this particular one, I'll focus just on the planet Jupiter. I'll focus on two things: the implications for this year, and what is being setup for next year, when Jupiter enters Aries. I find it very advantageous to view astrology as a story that unfolds over time, so it is useful to to think of past charts and future ones when considering the present -- in much the same way that the decisions you make today will be based in part of previous events and future expectations.

Jupiter like the sign it rules, Sagittarius, is associated with good luck, friendship, opportunities, expansion, philosophy, truth, writing. It is mostly thought of as a giver of gifts -- where Jupiter is placed in one's chart is often a bright spot in the person's life. The dark side of Jupiter is hubris and excess.


Aries. A time to reconcile the past, so that next year you can move forward with a new identity -- brighter, more optimistic, and more magnetic.

Taurus. Profits from career. Opportunities to make new friends -- to expand your community, your social network. Jupiter is associated with luck, and Jupiter in Pisces is particularly lucky for Taureans. Good luck this year sets the stage for revising your spiritual identity next year.

Gemini. Career. This year you get the promotion, the prominence. Next year you get the pay check -- and even more opportunities to be a leader.

Cancer. Opportunities for long journeys and traveling. Opportunities in publishing, writing. Opportunity for a spiritual/philosophical re-awakening. The spiritual strength your journeys provide you this year set the stage for you to be a wise leader next year.

Leo. Sex, and financial relationships -- an abundance of opportunities for both. LOL, great fun! Both sex and financial relationships have a deeply psychological component; if you've ever been screwed over by a sexual or financial partner, you may know what I mean. The psychological strength you get this year sets the stage for a philosophical/spiritual re-awakening next year.

Virgo. Partnerships, often of the legal kind: business partners, spouses, and archrivals. There is a danger here of being excessively focused on relationships and not focused enough on yourself. Likewise, there is also a danger of being too filled with hubris and turning people off that way. But, if humility, moderation, and optimism are maintained, there should be a great opportunity to attract new and important partners. This sets the stage for a deeper relationship with such partners next year, often of a sexual or financial nature.

Libra. A year to focus on self-improvement -- to focus on inwards. A good year to get a personal routine going, and to re-affirm your committment to a daily vocation of sorts. Sufficient gains in self-improvement this year will help you acquire the self-mastery needed to have deeper and more meaningful relationships next year.

Scorpio. Love, children, artistic endeavors. Focus on your love this year; experience and cherish it fully, so that next year you can focus on the mundane details that will be needed to make your love a daily, routine part of your life.

Sagittarius. Home, family. A potential year to buy a home or start a family. This conceivably sets the stage for kids next year (if that's not how you roll, you can think of artistic/creative endeavors as well; interestingly you will often find people who compare their creative projects to children, calling them their "babies." But anyway, the point is that using the opportunity Jupiter provides this year to get your home and family life in order sets the stage for a creative birth of some kind next year).

Capricorn. A great year to focus on your ability to communicate -- to express yourself clearly. A great placement for writers. As you learn to better express yourself this year, the stage gets set to plant yourself in a new way next year -- perhaps a new home, one that is more symbolic of the new way you express yourself.

Aquarius. Opportunities for an abundance of money and confidence. Watch out for excess and hubris, especially dangerous here. As you expand your material and psychological wealth, the stage gets set to expand how you communicate that next year.

Pisces. Last year may have been tough, but this is the year to be re-born. As you slowly grow into your new, bright identity this year, the stage gets set for you to be more confident next year -- and to attract the greater material and spiritual wealth that so frequently confidence brings.
