great post dave. this is yet another argument that fits into your niche/distributed twitters idea. a centralized twitter introduces these types of issues and makes them far more costly/risky than if we lived in a distributed twitterverse. to their credit twitter is quite distributed via their read/write API, but still not enough, IMHO, needs to be more distributed.
