Observations on Neptune in Aquarius

I swore I had done a blog post on this before, but I cannot seem to find it. Anyway, since it's been on my mind of late, I figured it would be a good time to revisit the subject.

According to most Western astrological systems, Neptune is currently transiting through the sign of Aquarius. Neptune symbolizes glamour, fashion, mass trends, and where we seek to escape the prison of everyday life. As such, it is very useful in understanding current trends, and identifying what projects in development will be able to ride these trends. By the same token, it can help us identify trends that may simply be passing fads -- movements that will disappear once the current transit is over and Neptune moves into the next sign.

Meanwhile, Aquarius is associated with the following:
  • Rebellion
  • Group consciousness -- the psyche you get when a group of people contribute to an organization without conforming; their individual consciousness is not sacrificed, but rather celebrated and seen as a way of enhancing the group
  • Small groups
  • Egalitarianism
  • Eccentricity
  • Crudeness
  • The "mad scientist" archetype
  • Technology
Some ways Neptune in Aquarius has been expressed in our world:

Reality TV. Reality TV is a great example of group consciousness; the individual identity of each contestant on the reality TV shows is not sacrificed of a larger organization (the way soldiers in armies or employees in corporations are), but rather is highlighted, and is a key part of the show.

Eccentricity and Rebellion. Note how in the era of Reality TV, eccentricity, rather than conventional means of glamour, is being highlighted. Shows about weird stunts and weird people doing weird things are now what is glamourous. Likewise, this is in many ways part of the rebellion against conventional glamour that Neptune (glamour) in Aquarius (rebellion) symbolizes; now shows like "The Biggest Loser," about fat people losing weight, are the hits, as well as shows about getting surgery and the scars involved.

Of course, I do not consider it wise to look at astrology as a condemnation to our fate, but rather for insight into archetypes we can best express at the given moment, as well as ideas on how we can most constructively express them. For instance, I'm using Neptune in Aquarius to try to glamourize 9/11 truth. Think about it!
