My Favorite Disruptive Trends
In terms of business strategy, I think disruption is the most important thing to understand and seek (see our archive on disruption). Below are the disruptive themes I focus on in my business:
Free media. Business models that help publishers profit in a world where media is free. This is one of the most valuable opportunities, in my opinion, both in the sense that the pie is massive and few people are aiming for it, pursuing instead price-based strategies that do not employ open copyright licensing. RSS is a key technology here. Crowdsourcing. Crowdsourcing is the labor mechanism that disrupts the corporation. The networked organization is a crowdsourced one. Wikipedia is the crowning achievement. For now. New political paradigm. The most "far out" element of my business is the contention that the nation-state is being disrupted by online platforms. While I definitely think this is possible, I think there is a major obstacle in that so few people are educated enough in both politics and platform technology to see this opportunity. However, I think as the nation-state continues to crumble, platforms will be rising at this time to fill the void. The optimist in me even dreams of a world in which this can be done somewhat seemlessly (though the realist in me is too educated to truly believe this). A new political paradigm means the opportunity to introduce a new monetary paradigm, which will unleash a truly MASSIVE amount of economic value. RFID. We're not investing in this yet, though if my business develops the way I hope it will, RFID will be a technology we invest in, as it rides the disruptive trend of open systems. This is the type of crap Fred and that class of open technology venture capitalists invest in, though the RFID industry is currently dominated by all the "devil" companies like IBM that want to carry out the NWO agenda, which includes microchipping all animals (including humans) on the planet. This is not a joke -- see our archive on the microchipped population. Also see our book review of Spychips. However, RFID fits the open systems paradigm. When combined with nanotechnology....forget it. You won't believe the kind of innovations that will be possible, the kind of wealth and liberty that will be generated for all. Disruption is a "surprise" strategy; it's about coming out of left field and totally changing the game, the way mp3 technology has changed and re-wired the music experience. And so because it's about surprises, the song for the post is "Surprise" by Jars of Clay. I like them. |
