In a world that is all about managing the edge -- the world outside the firm -- memes are hugely important. They are one of the most powerful tools that allows the core to influence the edge.

One problem from a business perspective is that many memes have a non-commercial aspect to them. This is simply because it's hard to get people motivated to help you make money when there is nothing for them. Even if you share revenue, memes are about passion; they're about love. And as the Beatles told us over 40 years ago, money can't buy me love.

There are many people awakening now; this is all part of the countdown to 2012, which is when the new era of consciousness will begin. If you are feeling an awakening of sorts -- a spiritual awakening, a political awakening, an awakening to your destiny -- you may find it worthwhile to participate in this event. Remember, the hero must always wake up to his purpose (in the first Matrix recall how the movie begins with the computer telling Neo to wake up).
