Time to Get Back in the Financial Markets
Last week I posted a short update on the economy, though I just wrote a longer piece for my trading site -- check it out here. It's a little more geeky, as I'm writing for traders.
The basic story is that I come from the perspective that 90% of the great opportunities in the market occur 10% of the time. So basically, I'll be out of the market, or in very small positions, for the majority of the year. Then when we enter the "10% period" I'll get in more aggressively. I've got a nice-sized position (well, relative to my portfolio) betting on the Canadian dollar appreciating against the US dollar -- this is the first trade that has really broken out for me this year. You only need to find a few opportunities like that and you can pretty easily post double digit returns (outperforming the vast majority of fund managers as well as the rate of price inflation) on a regular basis. The hard part is money management -- i.e. having the discipline to stick to your strategy, to cut your losses and let your profits run, and of course, what I view as the most important attribute of all....PATIENCE. I'm going to start linking to articles I write for my trading site as I publish them, though I only write when I feel like there is something worth noting. As always, please do not mention this site on there, we can and do talk conspiracy on there (anyone who doesn't acknowledge the role of corruption in creating and exacerbating the economic ruin is not being honest with themselves) but the conversation needs to be in the context of trading. And while you are of course encouraged to be yourself, the environment is a bit more formal, rather than the free-spirited, rockin' good time we have here at KidMercuryBlog.com. So if you could bear that in mind if you choose to participate over there I'd greatly appreciate it. Of course here on KidMercuryBlog.com you are truly free to say whatever the fuck you want, you want to diss me that's cool, you want to love me that's cooler, you want to try to lie to me well that's not cool but you are free to try. ![]() The song for the post is "Money" by Barrett Strong, although the song attained greater notoriety when the Beatles covered it. The song turns 50 years old this year! Damn. |
