Twestival
Ingrid Michaelson sent out an email to her mailing list yesterday. (See our song for Ingrid.) She mentioned Twestival, which is some virtual fundraiser thing folks are trying to do on Twitter. Basically they want to use Twitter to get people to donate music, and are trying to make it like a concert by getting musicians to donate their music. So you can get free music and can donate to help people get water.
That got me thinking about how much I hate charities. They are my number one pet peeve; see my previous highly controversial post in which I called for an end to all charities (though I should note I like 9/11 Truth related charities....they are my peeps, and that is charity work that benefits everyone in the world, so I'm down with that). And worse still, you look like the bad guy if you hate on charities: "c'mon man, they're just trying to help people....stop being such a hater....c'mon man....." Most charities are inefficient, both in how they operate and their strategy for addressing the problem. If I thought charities were a good way of improving the world, I'd probably be doing humanitarian work now. Capitalism is much more effective, and more fun (at least for me). Capitalism is the real humanitarian system, as far as I'm concerned. Which is why I'm somewhat glad to see Twestival become a marketing opportunity for musicians. Charity is lame, but if you can use it to sell your brand, than that's cool, at least in my opinion. With that in mind, I submitted my song "Proud to be a Conspiracy Theorist" to Twestival. Some may recall that our song "Proud to be a Conspiracy Theorist" was dedicated to the venture capital community. It is thus with great delight that I note that venture capitalist Fred Wilson recently said he mentioned 9/11 Truth in some of his presentations. That's great, absolutely great. I think Fred's demographic is one of the hardest to reach and one of the most vital ones. I've made the appropriate adjustments to the notes section of our song "Fred and Mikey, Give Truth a Chance"; Fred has in fact given truth a chance (even though he is still kinda hatin' on it, at least he is giving it a chance, and if we all did that the problems would be solved rather easily), so the song is now somewhat invalid. |
