I'm honored to introduce a new addition to our "Education" department: a section on the issue of freedom in education, including the full text of The Underground History of American Education by home-schooling luminary, John Taylor Gatto.

Since receiving the award for New York State Teacher of the Year, Gatto has quit his job as a schoolteacher, citing his inability to hurt children. He has traveled over 1 million miles to speak to audiences worldwide, and published four books: Dumbing Us Down: The Hidden Curriculum of Compulsory Schooling, The Exhausted School, A Different Kind of Teacher, and The Underground History of American Education. His newest, Weapons of Mass Instruction, ships December 1st.
