Stop this bill! We need to be moving in the opposite direction with copyright laws. An economy based on "openness" -- open source, creative commons licensing -- is the future. This especially applies to software and digitally distributed information (i.e. mp3 files). The open source economy is a critical component to solving the problems of the world, and it creates greater economic wealth as well. -- KM

The House of Representatives has passed the Pro-IP Act, which aims to impose stricter penalties for copyright infringement. It would also create a new copyright czar in the executive branch.
