American Apparel Taking Wireless Inventory With RFID - InformationWeek

CORRECTION: The RFID tags are embedded in the garment tags, not the actual garment. See the first comment below.

***

Problem is that often the RFID tag is not removed from clothing, and hence it stays on the clothes. You won't notice; it's pretty much invisible. This creates a scenario where you can be surveilled just by putting on a t-shirt. As RFID awareness grows, and as the purchasing power of the freedom movement grows, I expect to see some RFID-free stores emerge. -- KM

Small Error to Report

Dear KM:

I just read your posting about American Apparel. Below your blog entry there are links to the postings of others. One of them, the one attributed to Gearlog, says: "American Apparel to Embed RFID in Garments". When I clicked on the link I noticed that Gearlog's actual headline was "American Apparel to Embed RFID in Garment Tags". As I'm sure you can appreciate, the difference is subtle but extremely significant. American Apparel is not embedding tags into garments.

The current headline is quite misleading. I imagine this was simply an honest mistake, one that you will want to quickly rectify.
