A colleague and I were discussing the comment marketing strategy -- the strategy for getting Internet traffic by leaving comments on other people's stuff -- and how best to conduct it. In particular, we were discussing the image that we wanted associated with comments. We came to the conclusion that the best picture would simply be a face portrait of the blogger, with the URL tastefully displayed.
More specifically, I think female avatars are going to work the best. Here is what I told my colleague:
the bad news is that to really get clicks the avatar needs to be a pic of a cute chick....lindsay campbell of wallstrip is perfect, because she is cute but not smokin' hot to the point where it is obvious that they are selling the hotness of the chick more than something else. but anyway, this is how the internet will bring about the downfall of dudes.
This is Lindsay Campbell. Wallstrip now has a new host,
Julie Alexandria. Again, though, the choice is a female.
We've talked about this before. See our previous post on
the babe-ification of brands. I do believe it is a part of branding in the world beyond the matrix.
Dudes, WTF
To all the men out there: I hope you realize what you are doing here. Because you are easily suckered in by a cute face, you are setting yourself up for a world in which all the images around you are of chicks. This will give chicks total power over you. It will be a chick-dominated culture.
You fools. We had it so good for thousands of years and now you are going to blow it because of your pre-pubescent fantasies.
LOL. Relax, I am just joking. The one thing I am kind of disappointed about, though, is that the people have a strong dislike for serious media about important issues. It's hard to imagine Wallstrip talking about serious issues, like how 9/11 being an inside job is related to US imperialism, and how US imperialism is related to a fascist government, and how a fascist government has helped to distort the stock market and destroy the US economy. But hey, Wallstrip is just giving the people what they want. I blame the people more than I blame Wallstrip.
Wallstrip is one thing, though. The problem is far worse with CNN and Fox, networks now dominated by "infobabes." Yes, the short skirts are quite entertaining, I know, and I agree.
But the biggest problem in the world is that people don't know the Truth. The Internet is here to solve that problem -- but of course, the Internet can't solve the problem of people not wanting to hear the Truth. The people have to solve that problem themselves.
