Fraxi - a “Ning” For Digg Clones - techcrunch.com

Alright, this space is heating up, which means I gotta get moving. I see ActoNetwork as a vastly different project in many ways, but the idea of niche communities centered around social voting is a key similarity. One key thing to watch for is that now we have a set of commoditized features (social voting, threaded discussions, etc) and now that we are seeing these commoditized features bundled into commodity social networks (Ning, Pligg, Fraxi), one thing we need to look for is a dominant design. That's one of the reasons I really like vBulletin; tons of people already knows how to use it, as it is the most common message board. I think this can be leveraged to make it the dominant design for mass-produced social networks. Anyway, this is interesting. -- KM

Ning (and now flux) commoditized social networking and allow anyone who can click a mouse to have their own network. The same thing is now happening with social bookmarking sites that allow people to vote bookmarks up to a top list ...
