As you may have noticed, the world is changing.
As religious fanatics, new age spiritualists, cutting edge scientists will tell you, we are approaching (or, depending on how you view things, in the midst of) a fundamental change in the universe. Christian fundamentalists will say the apocalypse, as prophecied in the book of Revelations in the Bible, is coming; just look at
the plagues,
the wars,
the environmental troubles -- events interpreted by some as symbolic of the
Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Likewise, astrologers will speak of the
Age of Aquarius -- a new age, one that will run for approximately 2,000 years, marked by Aquarian attributes: an increasing dependence on technology into our daily lives and into the fabric of our society; the increasing prevalence of a
humanistic view of life; a time marked by rapid change and unpredictability; and the development of group consciousness (perhaps more commonly referred to as the
group mind). And last but certainly not least, science refers to this coming change the
point of singularity -- a result of the ongoing increase in the rate of acceleration in technological innovations, which inevitably results in technology innovating and developing itself, which, for better or worse, results in a world that is
out of control.
Whatever you call it, the idea is the same: we are entering, or already in the midst of, a world that is ripe for some big, big changes. This mini-series will focus on how business strategy needs to be adapted for the inverse universe. In particular, the Three Principles of the Inverse Universe will be explored:
1.
Inversion of competitive strategy: it's no longer about differentation, but rather about integration.
2.
Inversion of assets: the things you own end up owning you.
3.
Inversion of movement: you go to the customer, the customer doesn't go to you.
Lastly, we'll conclude by looking at
others who are talking about similar ideas, if not with the same jargon.
The world is in the midst of getting inverted. Let's find out how we can invert our game plan to match it.
