Recently, I put the call out to the venture capital community to step up to the plate and become kooks -- the heroes who choose love and truth over fear and lies. In my quest to find The Next Great VC Kook, I placed the entire web VC blogosphere under surveillance (see our VC blog section). I searched high and low asking: which VC will dare to deliver the Truth that sets their people free?

I was hoping for multiple heroes. But alas, it seems as though only One has stepped to the plate:

Here's how Brad did on my personal Kook Test:

Supports anti-war candidates not endorsed by the lamestream media? Yes, and yes again.
Hates on mainstream media? You bet.
Is part of the 9/11 Truth Movement? Well, Brad hasn't come out and explicitly joined the 9/11 Truth Movement -- but hey, you'd be a fool to rule it out. Brad has repeatedly endorsed Jared Polis for Congress. I recently emailed Jared to see if he supports a criminal investigation of 9/11 (which has never happened), but haven't heard back yet. Hopefully Jared values the capability of the Internet to help elected officials communicate with their constituents, and will get back to us on this issue shortly. While I don't live in Colorado, I'm sure my friends in We Are Change Colorado will want to know if Jared supports a criminal investigation of 9/11, the biggest crime in United States history, for which there has never been a criminal investigation. And besides, since the US federal government has sort of hijacked all layers of government, and since the US empire is all over the world, Jared sort of works for all of us now.

Anyway, Brad's a solid two out of three on the Kook Test -- with a possible three out of three, as I'm still awaiting a response from Jared. So Brad passes either way.

Like All Kooks, Brad is a Successful Visionary

Sheeple cling to the present, failing to understand that it is an illusion. Kooks serve the Truth, and thus are capable of seeing past the lies of the matrix, so that they can experience (and reblog!) the Truth that sets them free. Let's see how that applies to Brad Feld:

1. While other venture capitalists are busy "creating value" and "solving problems" by investing in businesses that let you send your "friends" electronic hamburgers on Facebook, Brad is bravely embarking on a real heroic journey, solving problems that matter. As such, Brad's portfolio is rich with the disruptive power of open systems and RSS -- stuff that helps liberate information, so that mankind can experience the Truth that sets them free.

2. As if that weren't enough, Brad's also on the cutting edge of finance, via TechStars -- an astute play that understands commoditization is at the root of disruptive innovations, and thus at the root of why capitalism itself succeeds. In other words, Brad is investing in commoditization, and thus is investing in the source of capitalism's instrinic value to society.

Like every hero, Brad is putting his faith in the Source.

And to the skeptics and haters, rest assured: being an ActoHero is not an empty symbol, a meaningless social badge.
