A shame that it's in all hype mode. The idea, though, is exactly what's needed.
The article notes that one hard part will be getting everyone -- containers (like Ning), Google, and developers all on the same page. This is why I think a fundamentally different approach is needed; OpenSocial needs to be set up by something that has the mentality of a government, not a corporation. While the line is definitely being blurred, I think Google is too much of a corporation -- and something a bit more like a government may be needed to make everyone happy. -- KM
