The Fifth Night of the Mayan Calendar Has Begun

The Fifth Night of the Mayan Calendar Has Begun

Today (November 18, 2007) marks the beginning of the Fifth Night of the Mayan Calendar. The Mayan Calendar measures time from an evolutionary perspective; in other words, it is a tool that tracks the development of our collective consciousness. In this respect it is similar to other natural divination tools, most notably astrology.

Swedish biologist Dr. Johan Calleman, author of the book The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness, had this to say about the Fifth Night in an article he wrote:
In the Fifth NIGHT, (November 18 2007 – November 12, 2008, ruled by the energy of Tezcatlipoca, the god of darkness), we will see the last desperate attempts of the West, and power hierarchies based on materialism everywhere, to remain in control and strengthen their power in some new very oppressive way.
On November 13 of 2008 the Sixth Day will begin, about which Dr. Calleman said:
Following the Fifth NIGHT large groups of people will however in the Sixth DAY break away from hierarchical control and guided by their intuition find a path towards increased wholeness. This is when the hierarchies will really start to break down, probably largely in a chaotic way. Yet, this is exactly the kind of chaos that is needed for the recreation of an Enlightened world.

Creativity is born out of chaos and if you think more deeply about it you realize that there is no linear way from today’s world (2004) to the Enlightened (2011). Instead the enlightened world can only emerge out of a series of transformative pulses, including periods of destruction, such as the Fifth NIGHT.

The paradox to understand is that the very process that seems to break down the world economy and political dominance is also the one that paves the way for Enlightenment. The emergence of a fully enlightened collective state of consciousness can only thrive in a global consciousness that is balanced. This is because the imbalance that has been dominating humanity for some 5000 years has had its direct cause the dualist frame of consciousness that was ruling throughout this time.
For those interested in learning more about the Mayan calendar, I highly recommend Dr. Calleman's book. It's particularly great for those who are new to the Mayan calendar.

We talked about similar stuff (the breakdown of hierarchical society and the emergence of the networked society) in our series on Culture 2.0.

Consciousness breakdown? Dueling psyches?

Has anyone noticed an intense trend of breakdowns in consciousness. I have felt it in myself just this past month and have talked to many people experiencing the same thing. In non-spiritual terms it is a series of breakdowns, meltdowns, deep depressions, inner turmoil, panic attacks, heart palpitations, etc.

I feel like it is related to the Fifth Night and the proverbial fight between Good and Evil, only it's not some over-the-top Hollywood duke-out between two people, but a battle that each of us is facing internally. And it has nothing to do with morality as the devout Christians think. It feels to me like I'm experiencing an awakening--a higher level of consciousness has emerged. It is a loving, creative, connected consciousness and it resonates at a high frequency. But right after I experienced this I also had a bunch of breakdowns in my nervous system. So my conclusion is that the shift is happening but the old me (the ego based me) is fighting for dear life to 'not evolve.'

You can see it in the desperation of certain religious groups who deny a collective spiritual existence and feel their own doctrines slipping away so they dig their heels in and go to the extreme dark side of desperation.

Anyway, that is my take on it. I think it's so important to share our experiences as we go through these shifts. So I'd love to hear if anyone else has sensed this vibe in the air or inside themselves.

YES! I think you nailed the experience. Though in my personal opinion, the fundamentalist Christian + conspiracy crowd (i.e. "Christian patriots") do have the right idea. Christianity is, like all religions, false, but the essence of love and "the Truth will set you free" is I feel very true, which is why so many of them "get" the overall shift that is happening. The problems arise when they take things too literally rather than symbolically.

As we approach 2012, I expect many people to have the same type of experience you are describing. They are connecting to the eternal Source and realizing they are a part of it. It requires "ego dissolution," as you described -- acceptance of the fact that you are a part of a much larger system, which can be psychologically challenging in many ways.

The fact that you use the term "frequency" is a great choice of words and a very apt description, in my opinion. Icke talks a lot about that.
